Why Isn’t My Ductless AC Working?

Are you experiencing cooling issues with your ductless air conditioner? There can be a few reasons for this, as we’ll explain below, but no matter the cause, it’s important to hire a trained expert to help you with all of your ductless AC repairs. The HVAC pros at Carney Plumbing Heating & Cooling have been working with ductless systems for many years, and we can help you with all of your ductless repair needs in Newtown, PA.

Compressor Problems

The outdoor unit of your ductless cooling system contains the compressor, the condenser, the condenser fan, and, if you have a heat pump, the heat pump technology. The compressor is responsible for pressurizing your system’s refrigerant, so if there is something wrong with the compressor, your system won’t be able to cool properly.

Refrigerant Leaks

A ductless system isn’t immune to refrigerant leaks, and like any other AC system, your ductless system needs an exact amount of refrigerant in order to work properly. Once a leak has sprung, the amount of refrigerant in your system will be reduced, leading to problems with cooling.

Problems with the Reversing Valve

If your ductless system uses a heat pump, it has a component called the reversing valve. This valve changes the direction of the refrigerant flow, which is how the heat pump can offer both heating and cooling. Sometimes the valve gets stuck in a certain position, or develops a refrigerant leak; in either case, the valve won’t work correctly and can affect your cooling.

Condensate Line Clog

The refrigerant and condensate lines in a ductless AC are much longer than in a traditional air conditioner because they are part of the conduit. Having a longer condensate line means having a line that can be more prone to clogging, which will affect the blower’s operation.
