Why a Good Air Filter Is Important All Year Long

If you use an upgraded air filter in your HVAC system, you know how much it helps keep your indoor air clean and free of problematic particles like dust and other allergens. You may have initially installed your air filter to help those in your home who suffer from allergies, but there are other benefits that an upgraded air filter provides:

  • They are good for your HVAC system – your HVAC system comes with a standard air filter, but the capability of this air filter is limited. This is because the weave of a standard air filter is designed to capture particles that are 10 microns in size and up. Unfortunately, many particles that can cause problems for you and your system are much smaller than 10 microns. Upgraded air filters typically capture particles that are 0.3 microns and larger, making them much more effective.
  • They handle indoor allergens as well as outdoor allergens – a lot of allergy sufferers become agitated from a wide range of allergy types, including indoor allergies like dust. As such, it is important to have an air filter that can remove your indoor allergens throughout the year.
  • They clean the air in your home better – the job of a standard air filter isn’t to improve your home’s indoor air quality, it is to keep large particles of dust and dirt out of your system as well as pieces of debris. Part of the job of an upgraded air filter is to clean your home’s air, so using one means you’ll have clean air throughout the year.

It’s important to change any air filter every three months.
