Signs That Your Furnace Needs Replacing

Furnaces can last quite a while, as long as they’re properly taken care of. However, every furnace will eventually reach the end of its life. If your furnace is getting ready to permanently break down, you need to be able to recognize the signs. You don’t want to have your system suddenly die on you in the middle of a cold day, after all. So, keep an eye out for the following signs that you need a new furnace.

More Frequent Repairs

Under normal circumstances, your furnace shouldn’t need repairs that often. Once every couple of years is the average for furnace repairs. Older furnaces have a lot more wear and tear on their parts, though, and that means more repairs. If you need to fix your furnace every couple of months, your system might be nearing the end of its life.

Higher Heating Bills

The same wear and tear that makes problems crop up more frequently also lessens the general efficiency of the furnace. As the furnace becomes less efficient over time, it has to stay on for longer to achieve the same temperature changes. That results in higher operating costs. If your heating bills seem to be going up for no apparent reason, it may be because you need to replace your furnace.

Old Age

Furnaces are really only built to last around 20 years. Past that point, they are far more likely to have issues like those listed above. Even if they don’t develop efficiency and repair issues, it will become more expensive to keep them up and running the older they get. Eventually, it just becomes much more cost efficient to replace an old furnace rather than keep it running.
